For Sale: RARE 1974 PUMPKIN ORANGE
VW Thing. This was a restoration project but I've got too many
projects right now and I simply can't see myself working on the
car for years to come so I'd rather see it go to a good home.
It's really fun to drive and is a great restoration project waiting
to happen. I had my mechanic do a complete inspection and subsequent
repair to pass inspection (which it did). Summary of restoration
done so far: Complete inspection and repair of the engine, transmission
and fuel system including new fuel pump from The Thing Shop.
Convertible Top Frame sandblasted, primed and repainted black
5 New Yokohama tires (P195/75 R14 TC320). New horn Current condition
Interior: Seats are in perfect shape. The original top vinyl
cover has been removed from the frame but is in perfect shape,
no rips of tears. It needs to be restiched to the frame and have
the plastic rear window replaced. This will probably get done
before I sell the car. I also have the original tonneau cover
(good condition) and storage bag. It also has a functionning
map light. Mechanical: Complete tune-up was done ($900) and the
car is now running well. However The carburetor may need to be
replaced. Following my mechanic's suggestion, I placed a fuel
system cleaner to see if that'll do the trick. The engine backfires
a little and is slow if changing gears at low speeds. The emergency
brake cables also need to be replaced. They've been purchased
and I plan on having this done next tune up. Electrical: All
gauges and lights work. Wipers work fine. An electric pump was
also installed for the windshield wiper fluid. Body: Floor pans
are will need to be replaced. The rocker panels have been repaired
(poorly) and there seems to be fiberglass work on the inside.
The windshield frame and glass also need to be replaced (at least
the bottom half). There is some rust on the front fenders but
that could easily be fixed. The paint looks original in most
places but would require a fresh coat. The front bumber has been
banged but can easily be repaired. The front valance also need
some TLC. EXTRA PARTS INCLUDED in the sale are: Original windshield
cover 4 original hub caps in excellent condition Never used tow
bar and brand new trailer lights when towing the car 3 window
frames (need new plastic) Complete right floor pan (from The
Thing Shop. Normally $275 plus shipping) Convertible tops windshield
accessories from the Thing Shop ($192.10 plus shipping): 12 stainless
steel screws for the top latch, 1 set of escutcheons for fasteners.
2 upper windshield fasteners. 2 clamping rubber for lower part.
2 Heat Exchange kit. 1 set (4) of stainless steel top locks,
upper & 2 top hooks. 2 rubber buffers windshield clamps.
US Buyers: As far as I know, importing a car over 25 years old
is relatively easy. I know very little is required when importing
a car that's more than 25 years old into Canada. Required documents
are usually a bill of sale, copy of the driver's license, clear
title all of which I have. Here are some sites I found to help
you determine what exactly is needed: http://www.buyclassiccars.com/import.asp
